"A good day starts with a great cup of coffee." is a common mindset for people nowadays.
We’ll either make our own coffee or grab a cup from a coffee shop or convenience store before heading to work.
What is it about this popular drink that compels people to drink it on a daily basis?
You could say it is for the "caffeine," motivating us to keep going even when we are tired from a long day on the job.
But have you ever wondered how caffeine gives us that energizing effect?
Caffeine enters your system after drinking your morning coffee, which would then convert it into chemicals by the liver. These substances reach your brain via blood circulation. It would work by blocking adenosine, which causes fatigue. It takes between six and ten hours for caffeine to leave our system after peaking in one hour. In general, caffeine-containing drinks should be avoided after 4 p.m.
There are pros and cons to consuming caffeine. The good sides are to improve alertness, short-term improvement of physical performance, and even decrease the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
However, overconsumption of caffeine is definitely not a good thing; it might cause headaches, high blood pressure, heart rate disorder, etc. On a daily basis, 400 mg is the typical maximum dosage suggested. It might be different for each person based on the ability of your body's metabolism.
