| Some words or phrases are frequently used over a period of time and within certain communities or areas. They are called slang terms. Some of them derive from some social phenomena and have unique meanings, while some are coined by influencers and quickly go viral on the internet. Those words are widely used because they usually contain elements of humor. However, normally, they don’t last for a long time. As old slang terms’ popularity fades away, new ones will crop up. | |||||||||
| 在某段時間、特定的社群或地區內被頻繁地使用的一些詞彙或短句，我們會稱之為流行用語。有些流行語源自於某些社會現象、並具有獨特的含意，也有些是由網紅創造並迅速在網路上竄紅起來。這些流行語之所以會被廣泛使用，往往是因為其包含了些幽默要素。然而，這些用語往往都急流勇退、很容易就退流行；隨著舊用語被人們淡忘，新的流行用語也會如雨後春筍般出現。 | |||||||||
| To give you some examples of slang terms.
You may hear someone say, “Girls don’t like me. I only have limited rizz.” Not long ago, the word “rizz”, coined by Kai Cenat, an Internet influencer, is short for “charisma”, meaning the ability to attract girls. | |||||||||

| Another example is “iykyk”, mainly used on online posts on social media platforms. It is the abbreviation of “If you know, you know”, implying that only the informed will understand. Though this term is quite popular, the origin of the term is hard to identify. | |||||||||

| Similarly, the term “bussin’” is one of the popular words, usually used to describe exceptionally delicious food. It originated in African American Vernacular English and has gained popularity over recent years. If people think the steak is so good and tasty. You may hear them say “The steak is ‘bussin’.” | |||||||||
